GERMAN AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TAKE INTEREST IN PHILIPPINE/SOUTHEAST ASIAN STUDIES

Vice Consul Fatima Mejilla Mueller expressed appreciation to the German and international students of Passau University in Bavaria for taking interest in broadening their knowledge on the Southeast Asian region, including the Philippines. She further encouraged them to learn more about the region in order to widen their perspectives and prepare them to become responsible global citizens.

The Consulate also took the opportunity to donate sets of booklet entitled, “Journey of Culture Through Object: The Philippine Collection at the Linden Museum,” a Consulate-supported research study by Filipino Professor Stephanie Marie Coo.

GERMAN AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS GET A GLIMPSE OF FILIPINO CULTURE AT PASSAU UNIVERSITY’s SUMMER FESTIVAL

Passau University students danced the Singkil, a traditional dance from the Southern islands of the Philippines. The school’s summer festival were also treated to traditional Filipino sweets such as ube biko, kutchinta, maja blance and tupig. Addressing the students, Vice Consul Fatima Mueller highlighted intercultural understanding as a way to build respect and appreciation of different cultures, such as the Filipino culture.

In her remarks during the Day of Nations/Festival of Integration celebration, Vice Consul Fatima Mueller emphasized the contributions of the Filipino-German community in Neu Isenburg in Hesse. The Philippines joined other nations such as Italy, Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine, and Ethiopia during the town’s traditional celebration this year.
